Finding a fault with your garage door can be a nightmare, especially if it occurs as you are arriving home after a long day at work. Fortunately, there are some issues that can be easily resolved using household items and a bit of manoeuvring. Even if you don’t currently have a fault, we still recommend you check your garage door and its fixtures regularly to prevent future problems.
The door is off its track
Your garage door coming off its tracks can be due to several reasons. If the tracks are loose then the whole structure could be misaligned, this can be fixed by tightening any loose screws and bolts. If there is a dent or a bend in the track then this needs to be realigned, this can be done by running a piece of wood or metal inside the track and then hitting it back into shape with a hammer or mallet. It may simply be a case of grime or debris buildup on the tracks, in which case a damp cloth can clear this so the rollers operate smoothly.
Using your garage door when the rollers are off track can cause serious damage, so it may be worth contacting our engineers for advice. Not only can we normally fix your garage door there and then, but we don’t have a call-out charge either.
The door closes too quickly
If you find that your garage door closes too quickly then this may be due to a broken spring or cable. This will need replacing immediately as a door that closes abruptly is a danger as there is nothing preventing it from crushing something that might be below it. To fix this, it is best to contact a garage door specialist like ourselves to repair these cables or springs and get your door back in working order.
Your remote control is not working
If your remote control is not working there are several solutions to fixing this. First, make sure you are within range of the antenna inside the garage, being a metre closer could make all the difference between it working and not. Also, make sure that the antenna is not damaged in any way, is hanging forward and the motor unit is plugged in and switched on. If these do not fix the issue then you may need to reprogram the remote control. To do this consult the instructions or look online for more information.
Don’t overlook other possibilities!
Other issues may be due to the door opener circuit or motor being tripped or burnt out. This would require a full replacement. Fortunately here at Garage Doors 4 You, we have the engineers and tools to fix these and many other common garage door issues. Give us a call today and find out how we can help you!
