Maintaining the exterior of your garage is something that should be considered extremely important. While you might think that making the interior to your property more attractive is the priority, you have to remember that the exterior is exposed to the weather – which increases the deterioration and wear and tear that it suffers. Plus, it’s the first piece of your home that people will see.
What would you expect to happen if you did not clean your teeth for five years? You may not want to imagine it, but in terms of the exterior of your garage, it could mean that the gleam that was once there when new has been replaced by dirt-ridden windows, bricks that are looking worn and flaky, and a poorly functioning garage door.
Your garage might be seen as separate to your main property but at the end of the day, if it is poorly maintained you are going to be looking at some hefty bills to have it repaired that could have been avoided.
Keeping Your Garage Exterior in Good Condition
Regular maintenance and care is the only way you are going to keep your garage looking as good as new. This can either be done by yourself or by having somebody else do it for you.
Ideally, you should be looking to have maintenance or cleaning work done on your garage at least every six months, but if you live in areas on the coastline, this should be every three months due to the coastal environment – and the additional wear and tear this creates.
The garage door and any windows on your garage will take priority when it comes to maintenance as these are operational parts, and are most likely to suffer problems if not looked after properly. These will need to be inspected and cleaned as often as possible, but at the timescales above at the very minimum.
Of course, sometimes we are too busy with more pressing issues in our lives and it is easier to get somebody in to do it for us. This does not have to be expensive, and you can even get a regular servicing and maintenance contract rather than having to remember to call people out throughout the year. The latter will allow you to get on with your life, knowing that the maintenance of your garage has been taken care of.
